This is a great first. For the first time in its history, the French women’s team occupies second place in the FIFA rankings, published this Friday. Les Bleues are ahead of the reigning world champions Spain (1time), but passed England (3e).
English women that Hervé Renard’s squad has faced twice in recent weeks, as part of the Euro 2025 qualifiers, for a victory and a defeat. Enough for the Blues to move ahead of the Lionesses in the FIFA rankings. Note that Germany, European vice-champion in 2021, has stolen fourth place in the rankings from the United States (4e).
Les Bleues focused on the Games
Before turning fully towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the ambition of winning a medal, the Blues will play their last two qualifying matches for Euro 2025, against Sweden (July 12) and Ireland (July 16). The Tricolores who will play these two matches will be selected for the Olympic tournament.
Indeed, Hervé Renard will announce on June 20 a pre-list of 24 players for the Games. The latter will meet four days later in Clairefontaine for the start of the preparation course for the Olympic tournament, which will take place from July 24 to August 10.
