Former Italian international Lucas Toni has little hope of a new coronation for Italy at Euro 2024.

Jose Mourinho is not the only one to doubt Italy’s chances of success at Euro 2024. Lucas Toni, former Squadra Azzurra striker and 2006 world champion, was also pessimistic during an interview with german newspaper
Bild.

Proud of the European coronation in 2021, the former Bayern Munich player believes that this feat will not be easy to repeat.
“Even though we won the 2021 European Championship, we did not start as favorites. Then something magical happened. Italy will certainly not leave as favorite. There are teams who are better prepared for the tournament and who are also stronger on paper. That’s why it won’t be easy for us,” he judged.

Luca Toni’s strong message

Like the Special One, Luca Toni does not rank Luciano Spalletti’s team among the favorites of the competition.
“France, England and Germany – exactly in that order”, he declared before pointing out the lack of time available to the Italian coach.
“Spalletti did a great job in Naples and was named Naples champion in 2023. But he no longer has the time he spent at the club with the national team, he added. I hope he achieves great things with Italy. But during a tournament, everything has to go quickly. I hope Luciano can do it. »

The native of Pavullo nel Frignano also wanted to remind the players of the Italian selection of the honor represented by wearing the colors of the Nazionale. “’You are lucky to wear the blue jersey, the Italy jersey.’ All of Italy and of course the many Italians who live in Germany watch this team. Our players must also win for themselves”he concluded.
