Rayan Cherki will have to cancel his vacation, if he had planned one at the beginning of next August. Not initially invited for the Olympics, the OL attacking midfielder has finally been summoned for this major event.
Thierry Henry called him for help due to the numerous failures recorded. And he is not the only one to benefit from this late invitation. This is also the case for Andy Diouf (RC Lens) and Christian Matsima (Monaco).
Cherki called to the rescue
“Following the unavailability of players Lucas Chevalier, Bafodé Diakité, Lenny Yoro (LOSC), Bradley Barcola, Warren Zaire-Emery (PSG) and Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich), the U23 coach, Thierry Henry, decided to summon Chrislain Matsima (AS Monaco), Andy Diouf (RC Lens) and Rayan Cherki (Olympique Lyonnais) for the preparation course for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”, the FFF indicated this Tuesday via a press release.
Cherki’s reaction will be interesting to watch. He is known for his ego and we can imagine that he is not very flattered by playing the stopgap. His relationship with Henry is akin to “I love you, me neither” because while praising him, the Espoirs coach also does not hesitate to scratch him in public.
With this late call-up, the rumor of Cherki’s involvement with the Algerian selection will die down. But we are not close to a twist.
