The only scorer in the 2014 World Cup final between Germany and Argentina, the attacking midfielder, now 32 years old, experienced the joys of a coronation on the international scene before experiencing hell at Bayern Munich. Considered a future crack of German football when he started at Borussia Dortmund, the native of Memmingen gave new impetus to his career by joining Bayern Munich in 2013. However, the transition between the Ruhr and Bavaria was not successful. The expected effect and his transfer caused a wave of discontent in the BvB camp.
Eleven years later, the Eintracht Frankfurt player revealed that he had been threatened at the time by around sixty hooligans during a training session with the Munich team. “It all took me by surprise at the time. I completely underestimated the importance I had in Dortmund. It was only with a lot of hindsight that I was able to understand the reactions as appreciation. What I will never forget is that one day, 50 or 60 hooligans came to our training just to insult me. I was 20 years old at the time and I chose Bayern for rational reasons at the time. I wanted to develop myself further”confided the former German international during an interview with Zeit.
