With the disclosure of Belgium’s list today, we notice the absence of Thibaut Courtois. Planned for a while, it is now official. Michy Batshuayi (Fenerbahçe) was also sidelined by Domenico Tedesco. New renowned names who will miss Euro 2024 following a decision by their coach. If Denmark, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Turkey have not yet revealed their list, certain countries have so far revealed pre-lists and some nice names still risk being crossed out. In terms of absences, Germany, which is the host country, did not do well. Thus, Julian Nagelsmann decided to do without many players. As for Borussia Dortmund, who are finalists in the competition, Mats Hummels, Niklas Süle, Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi And Emre Can are all absent and only Nico Schlotterbeck and Niclas Füllkrug will represent BVB in the competition. On the Bayern Munich side, two major players were sidelined by Julian Nagelsmann for their mixed season, these are: Leon Goretzka And Serge Gnabry. Left for Tottenham and Monaco this winter to get back on track, Timo Werner And Thilo Kehrer have not convinced enough. However, excellent with Bayer Leverkusen, the attacking midfielder Jonas Hofmann was a victim of competition for his position. Finally in the goals, we may be surprised not to see Bernd Leno (Fulham) And Kevin Trapp (Eintracht).

On the Italian side, there are also a few absentees. If it was planned for Sandro Tonali still suspended for sports betting while Nicolo Fagioli returned on time, Manuel Locatelli is Luciano Spalletti’s main strong choice. Alternating between the good and the less good at Juventus, he paid for his irregularity and was not chosen. A hard blow for one of the strong men of the Euro 2020 coronation. Also important during his competition, Marco Verratti pays off his exotic choice of going to Qatar to Al-Arabi SC. Absent since last September, Ciro Immobile is not in the game. On the Croatian side, Duje Caleta-Car (Olympique Lyonnais) And Borna Barisic (Glasgow Rangers) missed the selection on the wire and are part of the Vatreni reserves. Zlatko Dalic also decided to do without Josip Brekalo even if he relaunched at Hajduk Split as well as Mislav Orsic (Trabzonspor) And Ante Rebic (Besiktas) who encounter difficulties in Türkiye.

Spain and England have cleaned up

Luis de la Fuente also made strong choices on the Spanish side, notably putting aside the Parisians Marco Asensio And Carlos Soler. In defense, he was unhappy with Pau Torres (Aston Villa) and Eric Garcia (Girona) who have not done poorly this season. The Colchoneros Koke, Saul Niguez And Cesar Azpilicueta are also missing, just like Inigo Martinez on the side of FC Barcelona who sees his young teammate Pau Cubarsi pass him in front. Absent since 2018, Lucas Vazquez finished the season strong but it was not enough despite the amazement of the main person concerned. Finally, we can also note that Pablo Sarabia (Wolverhampton) And Ansu Fati (Brighton) are not there even though they were part of the 2022 World Cup just like Oihan Sancetperforming well with Bilbao.

Gareth Southgate also left a lot of people behind for the season. If it was expected for Ben White (Arsenal) whose relationship with the selection is complicated, Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) and Jordan Henderson (Ajax Amsterdam), who have been executives since 2016, are paying for their poor sporting dynamics. Similar situation for Kalvin Phillips who had shone at Euro 2024 and who was unable to revive at West Ham, just like Mason Mount who was ghosted at Manchester United. On the Chelsea side, it was a massacre. Aside from Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer who were called up, we note that Levi Colwill, Reece James, Raheem Sterling And Ben Chilwell are paying for a complicated season individually and collectively. Relaunched in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, Jadon Sancho And Eric Dier did not find the selection. Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan), Rico Lewis (Manchester City) And Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa) also remain at the dock.

Unsurprising absences for France and Portugal

On the Serbian side, the imbroglio Mile Svilar moderated the debates. The AS Roma goalkeeper who established himself as a starter this season was called up to Serbia last March and could have been part of the Euro 2024 adventure. Declining the invitation, believing that he would have a better chance of being a starter with Belgium following the injury to Thibaut Courtois, he was unable to change his nationality and therefore found himself not selected for the competition. The Orlovi also do without Marko Grujic who played little with Porto. In France, Didier Deschamps will have submitted a list with names which have rather achieved consensus. Nevertheless, we can count a few absences like Christopher Nkunku undermined by injuries at Chelsea, his teammate Axel Disasi who was blocked by strong competition in defense like the Nice Jean-Clair Todibo. Never in the group in a lasting way, the players of Aston Villa Moussa Diaby And Lucas Digne were not chosen by Didier Deschamps. The latter also bet on N’Golo Kanté in midfield, which closed the door for Jordan Veretout (Olympic Marseille) And Mattéo Guendouzi (Lazio).

On the Dutch side, Jurriën Timber (Arsenal) is absent after an almost blank season following a rupture of the cruciate ligaments. Returning at the end of the season, the defender narrowly missed a presence in the group like Steven Berghuis (Ajax Amsterdam). Finally to finish, Roberto Martinez bet on the men in form on the Portuguese side even if Raphaël Guerreiro (Bayern Munich) is a weight absentee. His painful ankle would nevertheless have cast doubt on his presence. Also undermined by his body and after an almost blank season at AS Roma, Renato Sanches is logically absent. Reduced playing time is what also deprived Matheus Nunes (Manchester City) of the competition. Performing this season with Braga and in the list last November for the first and last March for the second, Ricardo Horta And Bruma will not be there. Mario Rui (Napoli), Joao Mario (FC Porto) or Toti Gomes (Wolverhampton) also miss the boat.
