For his last official match with AC Milan (before the Euro and his departure for MLS), Olivier Giroud scored a nice goal on Saturday evening against Salernitana.

Stainless (but soon to retire), Olivier Giroud concluded his superb career in Europe with seasons scoring 14, 18 and 17 goals with AC Milan. The 37-year-old striker scored his 17th goal in all competitions of the 2023-2024 financial year, Saturday evening against Salernitana, for his last official meeting with the Rossoneri. The latter were already assured of finishing second before the last day of Serie A.

After opening the score by Rafael Leao, who took advantage of an improbable ball released by the opposing goalkeeper, Vincenzo Fiorillo (22nd), Giroud brought the San Siro crowd to their feet with a superb volley from a cross from Alessandro Florenzi (27th). A final, beautiful achievement for the man who won the Puskas Prize in 2017 for a scorpion shot goal with Arsenal.

Hernandez and Giroud in Australia

Théo Hernandez also shook the nets in the first period but his goal was refused by the referees (37th). In the second, the red lantern reacted and even snatched a point, thanks to a double from Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo (64th) and a goal from French side Junior Sambia (87th). Despite a third Milan goal, scored by Davide Calabria (77th).

Note that, unlike a good number of their French teammates, Hernandez and Giroud will not meet Clairefontaine next Wednesday for the start of the French team’s preparation for Euro 2024. The Milanese team will indeed fly to Australia to face Roma next Saturday in Perth. Mike Maignan, in the recovery phase, could be spared.
