As part of the 38th and final day of Serie A, Cagliari, fifteenth at kick-off but already assured of playing in the elite of Italian football, welcomed Fiorentina, eighth at kick-off. At the Unipol Domus, Claudio Ranieri’s men were, unfortunately, surprised just before the break with a goal from Giacomo Bonaventura (0-1, 39th). Trailing at the break, Cagliari pushed back from the locker room to equalize but could not find the fault. We finally had to wait until the hour mark to see Alessandro Deiola equalize (1-1, 64th) before Kingstone Mutandwa gave his team the lead again (2-1, 85th).
In the final moments, Nicolas Gonzalez put the two teams back on level terms (2-2, 89th) and if Lapadula thought he could offer victory to Cagliari, the match referee logically signaled an offside position (90+1th). At the end of added time, Arthur Melo finally gave Fio victory from the penalty spot (2-3, 90+12th) at the end of a totally crazy scenario. With this result (2-3), Gianluca Lapadula’s teammates remain in 15th place with 36 units. Note that at the end of the match and for his last as coach, Claudio Ranieri received a standing ovation from the Cagliari supporters. For its part, Fio is in 8th position and can still dream of 7th place, currently occupied by Lazio.
