A Real Madrid executive has made a surprising confession about German international Toni Kroos.

It is a football monument which is preparing to leave the stage. Toni Kroos announced on Tuesday his intention to retire at the end of the season. A decision which sparked a wave of emotions and tributes in the world of football. The 2014 world champion only has two final missions left before bowing out: the final of the Champions League with Real Madrid against Borussia Dortmund on June 1, and the Euro with Germany.

Many players in the football landscape were keen to salute the exceptional career of the child from Greifswald. Among them, his teammate at Casa Blanca, Federico Valverde, expressed his deep admiration for the man he considers his idol.

Valverde owes a lot to Kroos

“I guess when we were kids we all had an idol, thus wrote the Uruguayan on Instagram. The one we admired, the one we watched on TV, we said to ourselves ‘I want to be like that person when I grow up’. And if we were children with a lot of imagination, we could dream that we would play with this idol, who was distant, untouchable, difficult to reach. This child was me. This kid made his dream come true and played with the player he always had as an idol. »

And to continue: “Today with a strange feeling and a lump in my throat, I know that this child would have liked to play with you ten years older, and me too Toni. Because I never stopped being that child who always looked up to you. I’ve been thinking about that letter all day and I don’t think I’ve ever told you, and I don’t know if I could personally, but I want you to know: I love you and part of this who I am, it’s thanks to you. »
