Sergio Aguero decided to become an agent to try to make Mario Balotelli’s dream come true, calling Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme.
The former Argentina international tasted the Premier League title alongside Balotelli during their time at Manchester City in 2012. The pair scored the most memorable goal on the final day of that campaign, when the title champion of England was snatched from the hands of Manchester United, the great rival.
Aguero reunited with Balotelli during a stream covering the evening which saw City win another Premier League title in 2024, with the record books rewritten by Pep Guardiola’s side during an era of domestic dominance.
Aguero’s boost
During this broadcast, the Italian veteran told his former teammate that he preferred Boca to River: “ I prefer Boca to River. My dream is to play at La Bombonera.” Aguero immediately called Riquelme, the Boca coach, to say: “Hello, Romi. I’m watching City v West Ham with Mario Balotelli and I came to tell you that his dream is to play for Boca. So the ball is in your court. In June he will be a free agent.”
Balotelli is currently on the books of Adana Demirspor, but his contract in Türkiye will expire this summer. At 33, he could be offered a departure for South America, Boca having shown with Edinson Cavani that they were ready to trust experienced scorers.
