Victim of a serious knee injury last December, David Alaba is already on his way back with Real Madrid. His return is expected soon.

If Thibaut Courtois, absent since the start of the season, has relapsed and will not play the exercise, David Alaba could be a reinforcement of choice for Real Madrid for the end of the season. The Austrian defender continues his rehabilitation after having undergone surgery on his left knee following a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament on December 20.

As indicated by the correspondent in Madrid of The Athletic, the latest exams passed by the former Bayern player have validated a recovery in the coming weeks. Alaba will then need a good while to get back into rhythm in training before playing again, but he could therefore be in Carlo Ancelotti's squad in May.

OK for France-Austria?

The Merengues, large leaders of La Liga with eight points ahead of Barça after 29 days (out of 38), face Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, on April 9 at the Bernabéu and on April 17 at the Etihad Stadium. In the event of qualification, the semi-finals are scheduled for early May and the final for June 1 at Wembley.

For Alaba, 31, this is also huge news three months before the Euro. The captain of the Austrian selection could therefore be operational for the European Nations Championship in Germany. The team led by Ralf Rangnick is the first opponent of the French team, on June 17. The Austrians will then face the winner of the Wales-Poland play-off then the Netherlands.
