Manchester City have shared a bizarre clip showing Erling Haaland receiving a video call from a “secret super fan”, who turned out to be WWE legend John Cena.
The club opted for a situational comedy by announcing its 2024 summer tour of the United States. Haaland received a video call from Cena, who initially refused to turn on his camera for the attacker, but wore a long blonde wig as if to impersonate him.
Haaland's acting skills were put to the test when Cena's new look was “accidentally” revealed to him.
A very lucrative market
City's last visit to America was in the summer of 2022. This time, the club is expected to play four friendlies against various opponents. The Citizens will face Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on July 23, then AC Milan and USMNT star Christian Pulisic at New York's iconic Yankee Stadium four days later.
They will then travel to Orlando, Florida to face FC Barcelona on July 30 and, finally, they will meet Chelsea at Ohio Stadium (102,000 seats) on August 3. Ultimately, City want to strengthen their brand presence in the lucrative North American market to compete with clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
