Manchester City are reportedly ready to make an offer to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
According to AS, Pep Guardiola wants to recruit a top midfielder to accompany Spanish maestro Rodri in the near future. The list of options being considered by the club is growing, with Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa) and Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) also being monitored.
However, Brazil international Guimaraes is rumored to be City’s top target, after it was claimed the Newcastle player was ‘above all’ others in the transfer list for this summer.
City rushes towards Guimaraes
When speaking about Newcastle’s midfield talents, City manager Guardiola was quick to praise the Brazilian. “ He is an exceptional midfielder,” he said at a press conference on Friday. “He is aggressive, with the ball he makes breaks, in the game he is aggressive. Now Newcastle wants to grow and I am sure he will be part of their project for the next few years.”
The 26-year-old midfielder signed a new contract at St James’ Park in October 2023, which will keep him at the club until 2028, who is notoriously followed by PSG. Despite this new deal, Guimaraes reportedly has a release clause in excess of 100 million pounds ($127 million) in his new contract. This could allow City to pursue the player, if they are prepared to pay a high price. The Eatslands club has never balked at paying high prices in the past.
