AS Monaco was recently put up for sale by its Russian owners who still own 65% of the football club, with the remaining 35% belonging to the Principality’s local royal family.
A prince from Saudi Arabia, who had already expressed his interest in a potential acquisition of Olympique de Marseille a few months ago, has now changed his tune to take an interest in the Reds and Whites. “The club has been for sale for a few weeks and rumors are emerging from reliable sources on behalf of the Saudi prince’s family and the club. At present there are meetings between the two parties, with Prince Albert also involved in the discussions,” declared Jérôme Rothen on RMC.
“ The Monaco club is a special club in that 35% belongs to the royal family of Monaco, who will therefore have a say in a possible sale. But if the Saudi offer materializes, they would be willing to invest a considerable amount and the next bridge to cross is for all interested parties to reach an agreement. Conversations are ongoing and, in my opinion, if they want to invest, it will not take three years”added the former asemist player.
Regarding the interest in Olympique de Marseille, Rothen affirmed that there was indeed an interest in OM, but that there had been no follow-up. “That doesn’t mean that there won’t be an offer in the future, but for the moment, they are more interested in AS Monaco than in OM. But there are still many details to be worked out and the investment bank (in charge of the sale of AS Monaco) has three offers on the table, but the ball is in the Russian owners’ court for now. »
