Ancelotti, the daring comparison

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti told the Spanish press that the level of tactical acumen in La Liga is higher than in the Premier League, following his side’s 4-0 victory over Celta Vigo.

As well as the flow of footballers on their way to the riches of the Premier League, many of the world’s best managers have also settled in England. Currently, seven of the Premier League’s managers have previously worked in La Liga, including four Spaniards. Initially, there were five of them with Julen Lopetegui at the head of Wolves.

However, Carlo Ancelotti believes La Liga is ahead of England in terms of strategy, as he told Diario AS. “ It’s different. This doesn’t mean better or worse. There are fewer tactics. From a tactical point of view, La Liga is much better than England. If we talk about intensity, rhythm, the English championship perhaps has more. But Spain has more tactical quality“, estimates the Italian coach, who has won championship titles in each of the five major European championships.

La Liga is struggling

The poor results obtained in Europe this season have reinforced the fears of Spaniards that La Liga will fall behind its competitors. Real Betis did not focus on the Conference League but was still eliminated by Dinamo Zagreb, while Osasuna exited in the qualifying round and Sevilla were eliminated from the Champions League at the last place in his group.

If Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona and Villarreal do not advance through the return matches, Real Madrid will be the only Spanish team still in contention for the quarter-finals, in all continental competitions.
