Bayern Munich does not intend to call on José Mourinho to take over from Thomas Tuchel on his bench.
The board of directors of Bayern Munich has drawn a line under the candidacy of José Mourinho. Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is considered the Bavarians’ number 1 option to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.
The Portuguese would therefore be out of the race. According to Sky Deutschland, the Special One, which has also been mentioned on Säbener Straße in recent weeks, is currently not in the papers of Uli Hoeneß, Max Eberl and their followers.
Eberl also expressed the club’s position regarding the future coach: “We want him to be appointed as quickly as possible. But it also has to be up to the task. I’m not going to rush and perhaps ignore other candidates who could play a role. We already have a list of priorities that we want to work on and make sure we do it as quickly as possible. But at the same time, and I will never tire of saying this, we also have a season to play with Thomas – and we want to finish it in the best possible way.”
Mourinho remains unemployed
Unless there is an incredible turnaround, Mourinho will not have the honor of coaching in a fourth major championship. However, he has the advantage of being free since his dismissal from Roma.
Xabi’s agents have already held talks with Bayern. Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi is also cited as an alternative.
