Camavinga, the sanction falls

Starting for Real Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 second leg against Leipzig on Wednesday, Eduardo Camavinga gave up his place at half-time after a disappointing 45 minutes.

The bad choices of Carlo Ancelotti and his technical staff… Three weeks after a 1-0 victory in Leipzig, the Real Madrid coach strengthened his team for the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League, Wednesday evening at the Bernabéu. Federico Valverde was lined up as a right winger, with Toni Kroos, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga in midfield. The game plan was revised at half-time!

Already jostled in the first leg (they could have conceded several goals without the saves of Andriy Lunin and especially the catastrophic clumsiness of Roten Bullen), the Merengues had a particularly laborious first period. After Benjamin Sesko’s failures, Loïs Openda did not do any better… It was “Cama” who paid the price, being replaced after returning from the locker room by Rodrygo.

“Camaladroit”

The left-handed midfielder of Real and the French team is often valuable in speeding up the game with the ball or with his passes, but, against RB Leipzig, he had little influence in the offensive phase (as well as in the battle of the midfield). His few technical errors (4 lost balls) pushed his coach to call him back to the sidelines…

Lining up in the defensive midfielder, left relay as well as left back positions this season, Camavinga played 29 matches in all competitions, without scoring a single goal and making two assists.
