FC Barcelona must deal with two new injuries within its squad, and not the least.

FC Barcelona conceded a frustrating draw against Athletic Bilbao (0-0) on Sunday in La Liga, a result which was worsened by the injuries of two key players: Pedri and Frenkie De Jong.

The Catalan club published a medical press release this Monday confirming the diagnoses: De Jong suffers from a sprain of the external ligament of his right ankle. Pedri, meanwhile, has an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh. The duration of their unavailability has not been specified, but the Spanish media mention 3 to 4 weeks of absence for the Dutchman and 5 to 6 weeks for the Spaniard.

A packed infirmary

It’s a hard blow for coach Xavi, who finds himself deprived of important elements in his midfield. Which could prove crucial for the rest of the season while Barça is already in difficulty in the league, where it occupies third place, 8 points behind Real Madrid.

The injuries to Pedri and De Jong join those of Marcos Alonso (back injury), Alejandro Balde (muscle injury), Gavi (cruciate ligament rupture) and Ferran Torres (biceps femoris injury).
