“The fans were disappointed once again. The BVB star showed another poor performance against Hoffenheim and was probably the worst player on the pitch.. Strong words from the German media Der Westen about Jadon Sancho (23 years old) contrast with those of his debut. This winter, the England international (23 caps, two goals) returned to Borussia Dortmund, on loan from Manchester United, where he was pushed out. And while his first matches were rather encouraging with two assists delivered in two matches, the attacking midfielder is currently going through a more complicated, even problematic, period.
Sancho has played six games since his return in January, but has only been decisive twice in his first matches. A meager record for a player expected to return. “Everyone is happy to have him back. Especially himself”assures Remo Schatz of Football Transfers. “We can see that he has no rhythm and that he needs time”, he adds. This means that before his loan to Dortmund, Jadon Sancho did not have the opportunity to set foot on the pitch and play a series of matches. He had only played three small matches with Manchester United. His coach Edin Terzic was concerned about his physical condition after a long period without playing. On the other hand, if the striker needs time to regain his sensations, the supporters are growing impatient and expecting more from him after a month and a half of competition, while BVB’s results have been mixed in recent weeks.
Dortmund is not in a good dynamic
The Marsupials remain in three games without a victory, and a defeat against Hoffenheim (2-3) which earned Sancho the wrath of German journalists and supporters. The match against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League (1-1) also illustrates the lack of offensive edge of Dortmund’s attackers, with Jadon Sancho on the front line. The newspaper Le Figaro had also described him as a flop during this meeting. “The Englishman was content to play simplicity, when we expected his madness.”
The sequence of matches could allow Sancho to find the light, he who lacks confidence. “We have the impression that he lacks conviction, self-confidence and bite in the final third”, believes Remo Schatz. The London native will be closely monitored in the coming weeks, while BVB is only fourth in the Bundesliga and is not certain of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League. A return to his club which revealed him to the general public should have been the start of a fairy tale, but it turned into a nightmare. And while Manchester United wishes to part ways with it next summer, Dortmund would favor the recruitment of Maatsen rather than that of Sancho according to Bild. Recruited for more than 100 million euros in 2021 by the Red Devils, Sancho’s rating has now fallen significantly, and who knows how far it can go…
