To the great dismay of those who saw him take control of the club, the wealthy businessman Cheikh Jassim would only be an invention.
Sheikh Jassim, supported by the Emir of Qatar, was the big favorite to win Manchester United last year. He was finally overtaken by Jim Ratcliffe, the boss of INEOS. And for the latter, it’s not at all a surprise.
Sheikh Jassim, a pure invention?
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Briton expressed doubts whether this character really exists. “No one has ever seen it, actually. The Glazers never met him…he never…I’m not sure he exists! » he confided. A statement that is likely to cause a stir in the Persian Gulf.
Ratcliffe also spoke about the reasons which pushed him to buy shares in MU: “It’s a childhood dream, but it never comes true normally. This is the exception. My investment is guided by the heart. This is not a financial investment for me. If I wanted to make a financial investment, I would buy another chemical company…”.
He also assured that he was thinking big for Manchester United: “ The only reason I got involved is because I want Manchester United to get back where they belong. Maybe I’m biased, but I think it’s the biggest and most famous club in the world. He should play the best football in the world.”
Manchester United is 6e in the PL standings and can therefore hardly aspire to win the championship this season. On the other hand, the Mancuniens still remain in the race in the FA Cup and the Europa League. Their campaign can therefore still end with trophies won.
