Serie A: AC Milan falls heavily at Monza

Bad operation for AC Milan. Coming out of a clean and flawless success against Stade Rennais in the Europa League, the Lombard club had the opportunity to take advantage of the misstep of Juventus Turin, held in check by Verona, to become the new runner-up to Inter Milan. Facing a Monza team straddling the first and second part of the table, the Rossoneri got their feet stuck (3-2).

Jostled by enterprising locals, Stefano Pioli’s men literally collapsed before the break. If Pessina showed his team the way from the penalty spot (1-0, 45th), Dany Mota followed suit at the end of added time in the first period (2-0, 45th+6). If Giroud reduced the score shortly after the hour mark (2-1, 65th), the exclusion of Jović in the meantime (53rd) did not help AC Milan’s affairs. Scorer in the 88th minute, Pulisic thought he would score an unexpected draw. But that was without counting on a last minute reaction of pride from Monza who relied on Bondo to win at the last minute (3-2, 90th) before Colombo definitively sealed the fate of the game (4 -2, 90th+5). Undefeated since January 10, AC Milan therefore ended its good series and lost in this Lombard derby at the U-Power Stadium. With this result, the Milanese team remains stuck in third place.
