Hard blow confirmed for Deschamps!

The coach of the France team records a first withdrawal for Euro 2024 with that of Boubacar Kamara, seriously injured in the knee with Aston Villa.

The fears were justified for Boubacar Kamara. Hit in a knee last weekend during Aston Villa’s defeat against Manchester United, the former Olympique de Marseille player suffers from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Unai Emery confirmed the very bad news. “He won’t come back until September or October”, said the Villans coach about Kamara on Friday at a press conference. What is a big blow for Aston Villa in the race for the Champions League is also a problem for the France team. Boubacar Kamara is out for Euro 2024, and it’s one less solution for Didier Deschamps, who loses a player he has been counting on lately.

Kamara was here in 2023

Kamara had been called up for the last four meetings of the Blues, in June, September, October and November 2023. His playing time was limited, since he had to make do with two appearances against Scotland in October and against Gibraltar in November, to honor his fourth and fifth international selections. But at least he was a real member of the France group, an important notion in Deschamps’ mind.

The coach generally calls up five midfielders in his lists. The essentials are Adrien Rabiot, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga and now Warren Zaire-Emery. Kamara could be the fifth, and his package leaves a nice opening for Youssouf Fofana, Jordan Veretout or possibly Mattéo Guendouzi.
