The OM-PSG rivalry, Jean-Pierre Papin abuses

Kylian Mbappé has not been among the best French players this season, with PSG or the France team. This is the very Marseille verdict of Jean-Pierre Papin.

Now adviser to Pablo Longoria, Jean-Pierre Papin has found his favorite club after unconvincing stints as a coach until National 2 recently on the Chartres side. An old-school striker when the rivalry between OM and PSG was at its height, JPP did not forget the good habits when it came to voting to elect the French player of the year. Kylian Mbappé dominated all the debates and carried France to the World Cup final, and he quite logically finished in first place in this France Football ranking with more than double the points on his first pursuer: Karim Benzema. The former winners were asked to vote to elect the best Frenchman of the 2022-2023 season. For the former OM striker, the PSG striker simply has no place on any step of the podium. Papin thus gave first place to Mike Maignan, who did not play in the World Cup, as did Christopher Nkunku, third in his classification, with Randal Kolo-Muani in second position.

Amoros and Papin did not like Mbappé’s season

A choice that necessarily challenges for the one who had won the Trophy twice, in 1989 and 1991. Now, despite his absence in the JPP vote, Mbappé has three victories for the title of best player of the season, and the small rivalry that tries to bring up to date the Marseille leader could not really curb his domination over tricolor football. A rivalry maintained by another pure Marseillais, since Manuel Amoros also snubbed Kylian Mbappé from his podium, preferring him in particular Dayot Upamecano and Alexandre Lacazette…
