The president of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, has decided to spoil Emerse Faé and his players, newly crowned African champions.
Host country of the 2024 African Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast won “its” competition at the end of an extraordinary journey. On the brink after the group stage, the Elephants went through a mouse hole to reach the knockout stage.
Serge Aurier and his teammates then performed miracles, eliminating Senegal on penalties (1-1), Mali (2-1) and DR Congo (1-0), before winning in final in front of Nigeria (2-1).
A nice bonus and a villa for players
A coronation that will bring big returns to the Elephants. According to Ivorian journalist Malick Traoré, the country’s president, Alassane Ouattara, has planned to pay around 150,000 euros to coach Emerse Faé, who took over from Jean-Louis Gasset during the competition. The players, for their part, will receive 75,000 euros each, but also a villa of equivalent value.
Furthermore, the Elephants will receive $7 million from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for winning the third CAN in their history, after 1992 and 2015.
