For the former French coach, Kylian Mbappé does not differ too much from the legend of Brazilian football.
In 2017, when Kylian Mbappé exploded under the colors of AS Monaco, many clubs came after him. Arsenal was one of them. Arsène Wenger, the manager of the Gunners at the time, had sought to attract to London.
“Everything seems easy for Mbappé”
During the documentary “Kylian Mbappé, extraordinary”, the Alsatian technician revealed what appeals to him about the Bondyn prodigy : “I compared him to Pelé, yes. The sign of great talent is precocity and everything seems easy for him. The fluidity and power combined made me think of Pelé. He does everything 100 miles an hour.”
Wenger is under the spell of Mbappé, but he recognizes that he can also have faults. “Great players like that have enormous demands on themselves and sometimes on others. Sometimes it annoys. They are engines and also pains in the ass.”
Finally, Wenger also spoke about what Mbappé can still improve: “He can improve his touch on the ball. Today, he is concerned about the quality of his actions, which he did not have at the start. And he doesn’t just have speed. Even when he loses it, he will be able to play at a very high level. Great players adapt to physical decline.”
