Emerse Faé did not at all appreciate certain comments made by Jérôme Rothen about the CAN.

During the African Cup of Nations, Jérôme Rothen admitted to not being particularly excited about this competition. In his show on RMC, the sports consultant denounced “lots of technical errors, very physical football too, refereeing errors, overall, empty stadiums…”.

Words which reached the ears of Emerse Faé. “I heard that there is a pseudo journalist in France, who has never played an international match in his life. He would have said that the level of the CAN was catastrophic because there was neither technique nor tactics. I don’t think he understands anything about football. When you look at the international career he had… I’m not surprised”declared the Ivory Coast coach, after the Elephants’ coronation on Sunday evening.

Rothen will respond

The former relay midfielder, converted into a coach, absolutely does not share Rothen’s opinion. “I let him talk, he stood out, he made himself interesting. It was an extraordinary CAN, with twists and turns, goals, spectacle. It was very dishonest to say that this CAN was not of quality”believes Faé, who replaced Jean-Louis Gasset after the group stages.

Jérôme Rothen has already announced that he will respond to him. “I promise, I won’t talk about your career and your zero titles won,” he quipped in a tweet, making an appointment this Monday at 6 p.m. for the show that bears his name.
