While Real Sociedad will be in Paris on Wednesday to play the first round of the Champions League round of 16, the Basque club has brought comfort to the hearts of Basque supporters.

Real Sociedad is not approaching the clash against PSG on Wednesday in the best conditions. For its last trial run before its meeting at the Parc des Princes, the Basque club was not reassured on Saturday.

While the French champions dominated Lille (3-1) on the occasion of the 21e day of Ligue 1, and despite the absence of several executives including Kylian Mbappé, Real Sociedad lost at home against Osasuna (0-1), although only 11e of Liga. If the Basque club is in a strong position to qualify for the final of the Copa del Rey, it has however only won one of its last eight league matches, for five draws and two defeats. Enough to earn him a point at 7e La Liga place, outside the European places.

Locked until 2029!

The Txuri-Urdin are therefore not approaching the Champions League clash in the best possible condition. And all the more so since several players are expected to be missing. Supporters will cling to the good news communicated by the club this Monday morning: Take Kubo has extended his contract with Real Sociedad until 2029.

Landing in San Sebastian in the summer of 2022, the young Japanese is largely responsible for the excellent season delivered by Real last season and its first place in its Champions League group, ahead of Inter Milan and Benfica. In 71 matches since his arrival, the 22-year-old midfielder has posted flattering statistics with 15 goals and 13 assists.
