Hero of Ivory Coast’s victory in the CAN final, Séastien Haller broke down at the end of the match.

Sébastien Haller won the best victory of his career on Sunday. At least on a field. Because a year ago, the Borussia Dortmund striker had led a completely different match, against cancer and a testicular tumor which he was diagnosed with in July 2022.

After overcoming the illness, the former Auxerre returned to the field and was the hero of the Ivory Coast’s coronation on Sunday in the final of the African Cup of Nations. It was in fact the native of Ris-Orangis who scored the winning goal against Nigeria in the last minutes of the match, allowing the Elephants to win the third CAN in their history and to capsize an entire country.

“It feels good to be rewarded a little, to continue to believe in it and to see that it serves a purpose, could enjoy Sébastien Haller at the end of the meeting before bursting into tears at the microphone of Basile Boli on beIN Sports. This is exceptional. We have dreamed of this moment so many times in our lives, we hoped to get there. The match was not a smooth ride. Scenes of jubilation are what the country deserves and I am hopeful that it will do a lot of people good. »
