Former West Ham player Saïd Benrahma has revealed his mother played a big role in his decision to join Lyon in the January transfer window.

The Algerian striker, who spent the last three and a half seasons at West Ham, left the club in the January transfer window to join Lyon. After signing for the Rhone side, the player revealed that his mother played an important role in his decision to leave for France.

Speaking to the media for the first time since arriving in France, Benrahma said: “ She was super happy because she was very well received. When I spoke with Lyon, as soon as I explained it to her, she told me ‘we’re going to Lyon’.”

The 28-year-old’s move almost fell through after Lyon accused the Hammers of failing to carry out the necessary administrative procedures on their side by the transfer deadline. This happened after the player traveled to France. A day later, the Lyonnais officially announced the arrival of Benrahma at the club.

The former Brentford player is expected to make his debut for Les Gones on Sunday, in a Ligue 1 match against Montpellier. Lyon is currently 15th in the standings, in the midst of a very disappointing season.
