La Liga president Javier Tebas said for the first time that action would be taken against Real Madrid TV for its constant criticism of referees,
Real Madrid’s official channel is accused of creating an extremely stressful environment for officials. Incriminating videos against each referee before a match have become not only the custom for RMTV, but also a very controversial topic of conversation this season.
Javier Tebas explained to MD that the rights to La Liga television images are a public concession and that they are looking into the matter. “The channel is a public concession. I’m sure it was granted on the assumption that they would respect the values of the sport. The conditions of rights must be reviewed. La Liga begins taking action against the videos. Can you imagine a video of referees created by Barca and the rest of the clubs doing the same? We would destroy football. It is obvious that we cannot continue on this path.”
Tebas hits hard on Real
“No one objects to the videos because of what Real Madrid is in this country. He commands respect. The referees have had enough of the Negreira affair. I was president for ten years and having Florentino in front of you every day is not comfortable“. This conversation has dominated in recent months, as referees’ performances have come under increasing scrutiny, particularly with the broadcast of audio recordings of VAR interventions. Increasingly, frustration with referees is universal and not limited to what is seen as a conflict of interest between Spain’s big two.
Previously, the Competitions Commission, managed by the RFEF, had remained in the background, because Real Madrid TV is technically a private company, which therefore does not fall under the jurisdiction of the federation.
