Djamel Belmadi is extremely criticized in Algeria because of the Fennecs fiasco at the CAN.

As in 2022, Algeria did not manage to get out of the group stages of the African Cup of Nations. Djamel Belmadi, who led the Fennecs to victory in this competition in 2019, will therefore be replaced shortly.

Rabah Saadane is part of the commission in charge of appointing this future successor. “The FAF contacted me and I accepted. We have arrived at a dramatic situation, we have no room for error in the choice (…) There was no adaptation to humidity (before CAN 2023, editor’s note), even if the internship would have lasted two months. Players should be taught to dose their efforts during matches in Africa, and avoid constant pressure. We didn’t know how to prepare.”lamented the one who was coach of Algeria three times, in comments reported by Afrik-Foot.

Efailure of rejuvenation

Saadane points out Belmadi’s various failures. “We had to make sure to create competition between local players and internationals (…) Belmadi had to rejuvenate its squad and Mahrez is the best proof of this. In 2010, I didn’t have a right full-back, I had to transform Fouad Kadir, who is a midfielder, into a right full-back.”recalls the 77-year-old technician.

The ad-hoc commission charged by the FAF with recruiting the new Greens coach is chaired by National Technical Director Ameur Mansousl. It is made up of Mohamed Maouche, Rabeh Saadane, Karim Kaced, Fouad Chiha, Boualem Laroum and Amine Ghimouz.
