OL weighed down by its supporters, Lacazette makes a confession

Despite the exceptional season of Alexandre Lacazette, author of 27 goals in Ligue 1, OL did not manage to secure a qualification in Europe.

By recruiting Corentin Tolisso, Alexandre Lacazette but also Nicolas Tagliafico last summer, Olympique Lyonnais clearly had the ambition to return to Europe and if possible the Champions League by reaching the podium in Ligue 1. It is clear that that Les Gones finished very far from their goal with a seventh place which will not allow Alexandre Lacazette’s teammates to compete in a European Cup next season.

The striker and captain of Les Gones, recruited at the end of his contract with Arsenal last summer, has nevertheless done his utmost to ensure that OL achieve their objective. By scoring 27 goals in Ligue 1, he has had a breathtaking season. In an interview with Planete Lyon, he talks about the difficulties encountered by Olympique Lyonnais and the reasons for the failure of the Rhone club. The change of direction is mentioned in the same way as… the supporters.

Lacazette laments the problems with the public

“Several players have gone from the bench to starter status every weekend, you have to digest it. We also had to manage extra sporting matters: the change of president, the complicated relationship between supporters and certain players… Sometimes on a daily basis, it’s not easy to have to deal with a Moussa Dembélé or a Houssem Aouar who got whistled the weekend before” explains Alexandre Lacazette during his interview before continuing.

“You could see from their faces that they were touched. I don’t want to get into ‘who’s right?’ debates. who’s wrong ?’ but it was still our colleagues, we trained during the week with them and it was complicated. This type of situation affects some players. In the end, this mix of elements didn’t really help our young dressing room.” deplores Alexandre Lacazette, for whom the bad relations between certain players and OL supporters have clearly weighed on the whole team. A clear message at the dawn of next season, during which the objective of Les Gones will once again be to find Europe.
