The Algerian football federation has already found the man called to take over from Djamel Belmadi on the bench.
The story between Djamel Belmadi and the Algerian selection is over. Having failed in three major competitions, the 2019 African champion coach was forced to give up his apron. His replacement will be named within the next ten days.
In the Algerian media, many names of coaches are circulating for the position in question. And the one who seems to stand out at the expense of others is Marcel Koller. He is the Swiss coach of Al-Ahly.
A Swiss on the bench of Algeria?
Koller has already proven himself on the African continent, winning numerous trophies on the club scene. His only experience at the head of a national team was with Austria between 2011 and 2017. If he is appointed, it will therefore be a first for him.
Koller has already given his agreement to the Algerian federation for an 18-month contract. The Helvetian would receive 160,000 euros, excluding the World Cup bonus. A nice jackpot, but it is lower than what his predecessor received (€208,000).
In addition to Koller, the names of Halilhodzic, Queiroz, Beaumelle, Bazdarevic and Renard have also been associated with the Fennecs in recent days.
