Stade Rennais got the better of Montpellier this Saturday for the 20th act of Ligue 1 (2-1).

And four! Four in a row for Rennais who this Saturday dominated Montpellier at Roazhon Park, after having been right in recent weeks against Clermont, Nice and Lyon. Having started off with a bang in this meeting, the Bretons certainly gave up in the second half but did not break however.

Terrier was quick to show the way to his team by striking from the 3e minute, allowing Rennes to take a meritorious advantage before the break – an advantage that Kalimuendo was responsible for doubling after returning from the locker room, from the penalty spot (2-0, 48e). Before a third goal signed Gouiri, on the surface, but ultimately invalidated for offside (65e).

Europe within reach

A fact of play which could have been important since the MHSC, from then on, played its all, showing itself more and more enterprising and threatening in front of the cage defended by Mandanda. Savanier thus revived his team (2-1, 73e). In vain. Stade Rennais held on in the last quarter of an hour to make it four.

Building on this series, Rennes is getting closer to Europe, certainly ninth in the ranking but only six points – and provisionally – from the Top 4 and AS Monaco. The Pailladins are twelfth, nine points behind their opponents of the day.
