Broadcaster of Ligue 1 since the failure of Mediapro, Amazon will always be the n°1 platform to follow the French championship next season, while the call for tenders for the period 2024-2028 is scheduled for October. But the price increases twice.

On September 12, the Professional Football League will launch the long-awaited call for tenders for the broadcast of Ligue 1 over the period 2024-2028. There is total uncertainty about the position of Amazon, the current broadcaster of 80% of the matches since the failure of Mediapro. Prime Video took advantage of the withdrawal of the Téléfoot channel to recover rights at a knockdown price by paying three times less than Canal +, despite broadcasting eight matches per day on Amazon compared to only two for the encrypted channel.

The monthly Ligue 1 Pass increases, not the annual formula

What will Amazon’s position be with a classic call for tenders and the need to pay a lot more to keep rights equivalent to those currently held by the platform? The question is valid. In the meantime, Prime Video will broadcast the 2023-2024 season… by increasing its prices. Indeed, the monthly Ligue 1 Pass which was 12.99 euros will go to 14.99 euros per month. A rather substantial increase, because at the same time, there will be fewer matches to broadcast since Ligue 1 goes to 18 clubs. But, as payment is made monthly and the competition begins in August and ends in May, subscribers will therefore pay significantly more in the end.

A sum which, let us remember, is added to the 6.99 euros necessary for the classic Prime Video service. Amazon has however chosen not to increase the price of the annual Pass Ligue 1 subscription. In other words, the platform greatly encourages all its subscribers to switch to the annual direct debit and pay the sum of 99 euros to watch the full season. of Ligue 1. A good compromise for subscribers, many of whom will certainly change their subscription formula to the Ligue 1 Pass, even if in the end, they too will pay for fewer matches on the menu. Remember also that the platform has chosen not to charge its subscribers during the summer break, as was done last season. It’s already that.
