Thomas Tuchel’s statement caused ink to flow this Sunday. Traveling to the fan of the Bayern “Red Stars” club in Heidenheim, the German technician explained that La Liga was a championship where he saw himself playing in the future: “I would like to go abroad again. Spain has an extraordinary championship. From my point of view, and from my experience working with the Spanish, they are characterized by enormous self-confidence. When you talk with Spanish players, I quickly get the impression that you are interacting with the person.”

Words which came at a surprising time since the day before Xavi Hernandez had announced that he was going to leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season. Wanting to put out the fire, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and sporting director Christoph Freund intervened publicly with a statement: “On Sunday, as part of a visit to the fan club, our head coach Thomas Tuchel was questioned by the supporters about his coaching career and his previous experiences abroad at Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea FC and well sure, he gave information about it in conversation. He also answered general questions from fans about Spain as a football country. He never spoke about Xavi Hernández and his successor, as was later falsely claimed. We will no longer accept such unobjective statements directed against our coach, which always come from the same place. The atmosphere is tense on the Bavarian side.
