Senegal coach Aliou Cissé announced the color before the match against Ivory Coast in the 1/8 finals of CAN 2023.
Senegal faces Ivory Coast, this Monday evening (9 p.m.), in the round of 16 of CAN 2023. The Lions of Téranga, title holders, are the big favorites for this meeting, but they know that the Elephants , African champions in 2015 and 1992, are not to be underestimated.
“We are our own enemies”
At a press conference, Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé warned his future opponent, making a clean sweep of the past. “The past is the past,” he told journalists. It’s a CAN round of 16 match. They won the CAN in 1992 with us, that’s good. We entrusted them with something that we intend to get back. The Ivorians are our brothers, they will understand that what we lent them in 1992. They must give it back to us. »
And the 47-year-old technician added: “We respect everyone, but we fear no one,” assured the native of Ziguinchor. We are our own enemies. We had a good start, but that doesn’t matter anymore, it’s over. It’s a new competition. Winning keeps us going. One defeat and we go home. So, we have to prepare. »
As a reminder, Senegal is the only team to have won all of its group stage matches. The men of Émerse Faé, who finished third in their group, will have to show a completely different face to hope to create a surprise.
