Jorge Sampaoli would appear in the Algerian federation’s shortlist to succeed Djamel Belmadi.

Djamel Belmadi has not yet officially left the Algerian national team, but his succession is already open. Many names of technicians are circulating on the other side of the Mediterranean, and among those put forward recently is that of the former Marseille coach, Jorge Sampaoli.

Sampaoli ready to take the plunge?

If we are to believe La Gazette du Fennec, Sampaoli would be third on the list of priorities of Walid Sadi, the strong man of the FAF. He is ahead of Hervé Renard and Vahid Halilhodzic. If there is no agreement reached with these two, we could turn to the Argentine technician.

Sampaoli has the advantage of being free at the moment. He has been free since the end of his short experience at Flamengo. Coaching Algeria could possibly tempt him, especially since he has already had experiences as a coach (in Chile and Argentina) and this has resulted in his main conquests as a coach (winning two Copa Americas).

Recently, Sampaoli spoke in an interview with L’Equipe about his vision of the profession. He described himself as being “enthusiastic”. “I trust my feelings. I’m quite obsessive about the game, I surround myself with people who share this way of doing things. I clearly know how to build or rebuild a team, a quiet and high team on the pitch.” That turns out well. This is exactly what the Fennecs need right now.
