If the captain of the Blues does not extend his contract with PSG, the repercussions on Ligue 1 promise to be terrible.

As in 2022, the Mbappé soap opera is back for a spin. Since January 1, the star striker of Paris Saint-Germain has been able to sign up with the club of his choice. Real Madrid and Liverpool are among the clubs likely to welcome him, knowing that a contract extension with the Rouge et Bleu could not be ruled out.

Jérôme Rothen largely advocates this last option for the good of Ligue 1. “If Mbappé leaves, it’s very bad news and not just for TV rights. Just the level of the championship, the show we have on the weekend. I think Kylian Mbappé attracts a lot of people, viewers. On TV and radio sets, fortunately there is Kylian Mbappé, because that gives us guaranteed debates at least once a week. (…) Even if he has detractors, they cannot be on the sporting side, it is impossible. We cannot say that Kylian Mbappé does not bring something sensational to our championship. He is the face of our championship”recalled the sports consultant in the show which bears his name on RMC.

With Kylian Mbappé leaving abroad, Ligue 1 would be devoid of stars. “Plus, you lost Neymar and Messi, and that was already important. You can’t lose the year after Kylian Mbappé. I find that the French championship is too easily denigrated. But there, with the spectacle that there is this year, with the possible departure of Kylian Mbappé, the problem of TV rights, with the problem of certain big clubs which must be locomotives, if with all that, you lose the mega star, it’s problematic and for good, we will no longer be in the top five championships”, imagines the former left attacking midfielder. As in 2022, the native of Bondy is at the end of his contract and has the cards in hand.
