In 2020, Manchester City saw their two-year ban linked to non-compliance with Financial Fair Play in the Champions League overturned before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). But for the past year, the Mancunians have been facing a second accusation from the Premier League this time. In total, the Citizens are accused of 115 financial crimes. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin insists UEFA was “right” a few years ago about Manchester City breaking Financial Fair Play rules. Which does not please Pep Guardiola. In an interview given to The Telegraphthe Spanish coach was quite vehement against the Slovenian: “As a lawyer, he should wait, and then he can do what he wants”.

“He has a lot to do at UEFA. A lawyer must follow procedure. He knows we have the right to defend ourselves,” continues the Manchester City coach. The trial against Manchester City will take place at the end of the year. The verdict could therefore fall during the summer of 2025, which also corresponds to the end of Guardiola’s lease.
