In the After Foot show, Riolo was very critical of the Algerian squad and coach Djamel Belmadi.

By ranking in fourth place in its group, Algeria leaves CAN 2023 prematurely. This elimination from the group stage sparked severe criticism, notably from consultant Daniel Riolo. During his show “After Foot” on RMC, the polemicist expressed the opinion that the Algerian team was now “finished” and that coach Djamel Belmadi had reached a point of no return. He particularly highlighted the lack of renewal within the Fennecs squad.

“It’s decrepitude”

“They are finished. We don’t open our eyes to the fact that many players are completely finished in this team, Riolo said. Belmadi is certainly responsible. He tried to renew, but he doesn’t have good players to renew. He and his group are at the end of the road. The one who floats, Ounas, is still a little player. In France, many players are enthusiastic about Ounas. But he’s a replacement in Ligue 1. Belaïli is an extremely overrated guy. Slimani, he came with his fridge. »

And added: “It’s no one’s fault except themselves, their mediocrity, a coach who is at the end of his rope. (…) Coaches at the end of their rope, we often see it in the attitude. In the way they are, the way they look, the way they are dressed. (…) It’s almost a little dilapidated… I think that all of that has meaning since their victory in 2019. It’s decrepit. This is a total fiasco for this selection. »

Algeria had already been eliminated in the group stage of CAN 2021. This new failure is a hard blow for the Greens, who won the CAN in 2019.
