Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana and the country’s legendary striker Samuel Eto’o have reportedly not spoken since the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Cameroonian team is not at the end of its troubles, as the feud is still not resolved, according to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail. Eto’o, elected president of the Cameroon Football Federation in 2021, repeatedly argued with Onana and the player was sent home for disciplinary issues during the 2022 World Cup. Onana retired internationally before being recalled, but has since been accused of disrespecting his national team after arriving late to the AFCON.

Two irreconcilable men

On X, Wheeler said: “ The quarrel between André Onana and Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, does not seem to have evolved. It is said that they have not spoken since the World Cup in Qatar and that their relationship is broken and irreconcilable. Onana could be back (at Manchester United) this week if Cameroon is eliminated from the CAN on Tuesday. »

The rift between Onana and Eto’o seems to have no end in sight. Disagreements between the star goalkeeper and the nation’s president will only hamper Cameroon’s chances of victory, not only in this year’s AFCON, but also in future tournaments.
