Worried about the state of the pitch at the Source stadium, before PSG’s trip to Orléans, Luis Enrique admitted to having made a “mistake”.
Saturday evening, Paris Saint-Germain validated its ticket for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France by winning (1-4) against US Orléans, at the Source stadium. Before the match, Luis Enrique had expressed his concern about the state of the pitch.
After the victory of the Rouge et Bleu, the Spanish technician admitted that he should not have worried so much. “This is the first time that this has happened to me in my career that a pitch has been finished being set up two days before playing. Hence my concern. But I was wrong and I congratulate those responsible because there was no risk for the players of the two teams and we were able to play good football. Normally when something like this happens, the pitch is a disaster. Today the pitch was good and it was a joy because we were able to enjoy a high level match and the players were able to do their job. My concern was not justified and I am happy about it,” confessed the former Spain coach at a press conference.

This round of 16 of the Coupe de France had almost been relocated. Indeed, the Orléans town hall published a decree on November 30 to prevent any meeting from taking place at the Source stadium. A measure taken after the discovery of pieces of glass on the lawn following a sandblasting fault. The municipality thus forced the club to completely renovate its pitch.
