After missing the first CAN match to be able to play with Manchester United, André Onana completely missed his match against Senegal.
Friday evening, André Onana experienced a nightmarish evening, during the meeting between Senegal and Cameroon (3-1), counting for the second day of the group stages of the African Cup of Nations. On the first goal conceded by the Indomitable Lions, his fist clearance proved too feverish. On the second, the Manchester United player does not correctly anticipate Ismaïla Sarr’s strong cross.
Following his poor performance, André Onana was unable to escape the tide of social networks, even finding himself in Top Tendance on X (formerly Twitter). The official account for CAN 2023 recalls that he is the first goalkeeper in the history of football to concede five goals on two different continents in three days.

After the defeat, Onana still believed in his team’s chances of qualifying for the round of 16. “We are a great nation, with an important match coming up and we are going to give everything. We know very well that it’s going to be difficult, that’s why we’re here. And we will assume our responsibilities. We must also recognize the quality of the opposing team. We played against the African champion, they put us in difficulty. But in the last 45 minutes, we were better. We must learn from our mistakes”he declared on the microphone of Canal+ Sport.
