Held in check by Burkina Faso this Saturday at the CAN (2-2), Algeria lodged a protest.

This is reminiscent of the Algeria-Cameroon episode and this decisive match for the Greens in the race for the 2022 World Cup, despite the appeal filed with Fifa by the Algerian Football Federation. Following its match against Burkina Faso this Saturday – a game concluded with a score of 2-2 – the FAF officially lodged a complaint with the competent authorities.

The reason ? A sometimes dilettante arbitration which could have penalized the men of Djamel Belmadi, who notably denounced at a press conference “ an obvious hand on the surface. It was a blatant penalty, I would like to point out… » The pill being all the more difficult to swallow for the Algerians as the referee in charge of VAR was already officiating during the first group match for Mahrez and others, against Angola (1-1).

Arbitration “up to standard” demanded

The Algerian Football Federation has officially lodged a complaint with the African Football Confederation regarding the provision of refereeing during the Algeria-Burkina Faso matchwe can read in a federal press release this Saturday evening. The FAF does not understand why the CAF Refereeing Commission appoints the same VAR referee as in the first match, which raises legitimate questions about the inappropriateness of such an appointment, especially since actions disputed during the match were not noted by the VAR referees, such as the fouls committed on our players at the 10e and the 57e minutes. The FAF’s complaint is based on verifiable facts to which the responsible referees must respond. »

Through this complaint, the Algerian Football Federation hopes for an intervention so that the arbitration is of a better level and up to the prestigious continental competition. », conclude the Algerians. The Greens, in danger after two group matches, will play their qualification for the round of 16 against Mauritania in three days.
