A player from the Senegalese selection was authorized to leave the gathering following a family bereavement.
If Senegal perfectly negotiated its entry into this African Cup of Nations with a victory against Gambia (3-0), the selection learned sad news this Wednesday. The Teranga Lions group is in mourning following the death of Cheikhou Kouyaté’s father.
The Senegalese Football Federation said in an official statement that the Nottingham Forest defender had been allowed to leave the gathering to attend the funeral and pay his respects to his family.
“ Our player Cheikhou KOUYATÉ was authorized to leave the National Team group to go to the funeral of his father who passed away today in Dakar. Rest in peace“, we can read in the press release from the Senegalese Federation.
The next meeting of Aliou Cissé’s men will take place this Friday, against Cameroon (6 p.m.).
