Mauricio Pochettino admits Chelsea could turn to the transfer market after losing Christopher Nkunku to another injury.
After suggesting there was no need to bring in another striker this month, Pochettino was asked whether Nkunku’s hip injury had changed Chelsea’s view on concerns a possible transfer hunt. He responded that depending on the severity of the injury, that might be the case.
“It’s true that now, in the coming days, we will see the situation. “That’s why I told you I was a bit worried,” the Chelsea boss told reporters ahead of Saturday’s match against Fulham. “I don’t yet have all the information to know whether (Nkunku) will be available or not for a small initial period. We have to be very rigorous and make decisions to think about and see how to solve the problem. All these situations make our job a little more difficult. I told you before that this is an exciting project, but this kind of situation makes it more difficult”
Nkunku was signed for £53million last June, a deal believed to have been completed at least six months earlier. But Chelsea fans have barely seen the player who scored 58 goals in 88 appearances in his final two seasons at RB Leipzig, due to a pre-season knee injury that required surgery and delayed debut French until December. He had only played four times in all competitions before being sidelined again due to a hip problem at the start of January. Pochettino had already admitted that he was “worried” about this injury and this new absence.
