Brazilian football legend Mario Zagallo died this week at the age of 92. His record with the Seleçao is extraordinary.

One year after Pelé, a legend of Brazilian football passed away. Mario Zagallo died this week at the age of 92, his relatives announced in a press release. “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of our eternal four-time world champion Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo,” indicates the message posted on social networks.

Mario Zagallo has indeed one of the greatest records in the history of football. The one that Pelé considered ” like a brother “ won the World Cup twice, in 1958 (with a goal in the final) then in 1962. Then in 1970 he became the first man to lift the trophy as a coach, after having won it as a player . Franz Beckenbauer and Didier Deschamps later joined him in this very closed circle.

Zagallo returned to help the Seleçao for the 1994 World Cup, as assistant to Carlos Alberto Parreira, for the Auriverde’s fourth world title. And it was of course him who was the Brazilian coach during the 1998 World Cup, lost 3-0 in the final against Zinedine Zidane’s France.
Coach of the Blues, Aimé Jacquet paid a very nice tribute to the man who was nicknamed the “Professor”. “He is the greatest coach in the worlddeclared Aimé Jacquet just after the victory, recalls So Foot. It would take me two entire lifetimes to hope to match his track record. I admired him as a player, then a coach. I hope he doesn’t blame me for beating him. »
