If Real Madrid wanted to avoid finding themselves in a new transfer saga concerning Kylian Mbappé, they will have been bitterly disappointed by the first week of January.
Since he became free to sign a contract with the club of his choice, a steady stream of information about his future has made its way around the world. Los Blancos would have given him until mid-January to make a decision, but this “deadline” is in fact the end of January, according to information from L’Equipe. Real Madrid believe this is a reasonable amount of time to decide on their future, so that all three parties – it appears they are the only ones involved – can start planning their future.
The same report specifies that the decision will not go beyond the first week of February, in order to allow him to concentrate on the Champions League round of 16 match between PSG and Real Sociedad. He made a pact with PSG to this effect, just as he agreed to give up around 80 million euros if he joined Real Madrid. It is possible that he will announce his decision internally at PSG in order to be clear.
Also, Le Parisien claims that the striker has already received a contract offer from PSG for a long-term extension. At the same time, it has been reported that Real Madrid’s offer to the Bondynois is exactly the same as the one they thought they agreed with him two summers ago. El Chiringuito even claims that Los Blancos have actually reduced their offer, and although his salary remains the same, his signing bonus has dropped by €100m to peak at €50m.
