Kylian Mbappé admits he misses playing alongside a “special” Lionel Messi.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner severed ties with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, deciding to pursue the American dream with MLS club Inter Miami. Messi spent two years in the French capital after leaving FC Barcelona, but he struggled to convince Ile-de-France fans. Messi’s many qualities, however, were adopted by those around him at the Parc des Princes. His creative skills allowed him to deliver a large number of assists, even as his prolific source of goals began to dry up.
The winner of the 2018 World Cup, Kylian Mbappé, praised the man who beat him to the world title at Qatar 2022, speaking to Amazon Prime Sport: “Playing with Leo Messi is something I miss a lot. We always regret not playing with Leo Messi anymore! For a striker like me, who likes to attack spaces, with him you have the certainty of being able to get the ball. It’s a luxury that only he can give you. Beyond that, playing with Messi was special.”
Messi has scored 32 goals for PSG in 75 appearances, helping them win two Ligue 1 titles, but Mbappé is now the strongman in Paris, with Brazilian superstar Neymar also heading for new horizons. The South American is currently recovering from a knee ligament injury at Saudi club Al-Hilal.
