OM victim of major looting?

Olympique de Marseille is not calm. Most of the current gems in his training center could well escape him in the months to come.

To avoid spending millions recruiting players from outside, Olympique de Marseille has refocused on a training and post-training project within the Marseille club itself. As a result, future hopes are already emerging. But inevitably, the gems attract other clubs and faced with potential offers from some of them, it could well be that OM is powerless and will not succeed in convincing its young players to stay.

According to Provence, such a scenario is far from unimaginable, especially since several Marseille elements, members of the French U17 champion team, are stirring up envy. The southern daily notably cites Gaël Lafont, a seventeen-year-old midfielder whose contract with OM will end next June. Negotiations are already underway between the player’s representatives and Marcos Otero, but there is no guarantee that they will be successful.

No auctions for Longoria

The case of Darryl Bakola, however, is more worrying. Considered the greatest hope currently present among OM’s youngsters, the sixteen-year-old midfielder is being targeted by big European teams, he who, like the others, is waiting to sign a first professional contract with his club. Provence adds that Pablo Longoria and OM will not necessarily align in the event of a surge in bidding. Major looting cannot therefore be ruled out within a few months. Marseille could, however, gain a few million euros. But will this be satisfactory enough?
